Usti, again

One night we were walking along some street in Usti (Stefanikova?), and I noticed that some of the cast-iron access covers on the street (like manholes, but smaller, just to access gas or water valves or something) had Aussig imprinted on them. Aussig was the German name for Usti nad Labem, back when that northern part of Bohemia (Sudetenland) was very very German. Mostly German-speaking, mostly ethnic German. Many, if not most ethnic Germans were kicked out of the region after WWII.

The thing is, I doubt anyone used the name Aussig after WWII. Which would mean those covers have been in place since before 1944.

Wild.
