So R’s “official” due date is either a week away or two weeks away, depending on what metric one uses. But 1.0 was a few days early; second babies are often early; R’s been feeling a lot of Braxton-Hicks (practice) contractions; and really, the baby could come at any point from a week ago and still be considered “full term.” It’s really exciting, but scary—at any moment now, we could have our second child.

I’m keeping my cell phone in my pocket even when I go down the hall in case R. calls, and we’re trying to limit going too far from home, so in case labor starts we’re not an hour’s drive away or whatever. While 1.0 took about six or seven hours total (and we had time to go to a restaurant for lunch), we’ve heard stories from friends of babies coming in as little as one hour. It takes me 20 minutes to ride home from work. And we have to call the midwife, and our friend who will be watching 1.0. And then we have to set everything up: the birth pool, the bed, the CD player, get snacks and drinks and cameras ready…

Anyway, it’s exciting and scary. I’ve got a couple weeks’ worth of stuff in the queue, but if I stop posting stories/reblogging all of a sudden, it’s ‘cause I’m at home with 1.0, 2.0, and Mama, where I’ll be for a couple months. Occasional posts/updates are possible. Anyway, if you follow me, and I drop off the radar, that’s why. Be patient, and I will return with stories and photos and such. Wish us luck!
